Dear MTT-S members,
It is with the deepest sadness that I must report to you the passing of Doug (Douglas Kent) Rytting.
Doug passed away on Friday, 3 February 2023. The funeral was on 11 February 2023. Doug was a key player in the HP Network Analyzer product development for multiple decades. The most notable was the HP8510A where he was the senior manager directly in charge of the development team. He also was “involved in the development of error correction methods, accuracy analysis, nonlinear measurements and general measurement techniques in the microwave industry.” He was a significant contributor to those activities. He was the chair of an MTT/industry committee, in the late 1980’s to oppose governmental cuts in funding of microwave standards activity at NBS / NIST. Promote National Microwave Standards, PNMS testified at US Congressional hearings on NBS’s budget and was able to restore some of the cut funding. He was an MTT DML, an MTT Application awardee, and an IEEE level Keithley Awardee.
This is a tremendous loss to MTT-S and to our profession.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Doug and his family.
