The Heartbeat of Magnetic Resonance Imaging: RF Power Amplifiers in MRI Scanners

Abstract

The design and optimization of RF power amplifiers for MRI scanners focus on nuances that improve efficiency, linearity and stability for strong and consistent magnetic fields. This article presents an overview of the theoretical foundations, commercialization history, and the design of modern MRI imaging systems. Insight into aspects of PA performance that enhance MRI performance are developed that increase signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), improve spatial resolution, reduce imaging time, enhance spectroscopic imaging and improve functional MRI sensitivity. These cutting-edge PAs are the heartbeat of MRI that enhance MRI performance and further elevate the standards of medical imaging for more sophisticated imaging techniques.
