Device
Wideband polarization-energy distributable metasurface (WPDM) with tri-state reconfigurable polarization conversion (RPC) units.
Spectrum
7 – 13 GHz
Novelty
Each RPC unit integrates two anti-parallel PIN diodes, enabling three switchable operational states. When both diodes are off, it is in the co-polarized reflection state. When the two diodes are configured one on and one off, it operates in the cross-polarized conversion state, and the induced current in the RPC units is equivalent to 0° or 180° physical rotation, realizing wideband 1-bit phase shift.
The WPDM dynamically controls backscattered energy across two orthogonal polarizations, for both TE and TM waves, by adjusting the ratio and arrangement of the tri-state units.
Application
Intelligent stealth platforms with radar interference and EM stealth capabilities capable of avoiding detection by polarimetric radar systems with enhanced polarization-sensitive detection.
Performance
>10 dB modulated range in the co-polarization domain; >20 dB tuning range in the cross-polarization domain by additional phase modulation.
