Device
Fully Integrated High-EIRP Leaky-Wave Transmitter for Millimeter-Wave Wireless Power Transfer
Spectrum
24 – 28.5 GHz
Novelty
The wireless power transfer (WPT) system delivers scalable high-EIRP transmission through distributed active spatial power combining across a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) leaky-wave antenna (LWA) array (SLWAA). This approach spatially distributes RF power amplification, feeding, and radiation processes for less power and thermal burden on the power amplifier (PA). The design consists of three key parts: substrate-integrated waveguide SIW uniform power divider (SSUPD) to split the input power uniformly to ten channels, the PA, and the SIW LWA array (SLWAA). The power of each output port is coupled to the microstrip line (MSL) and amplified by the PA.
Application
Millimeter-wave WPT systems with low hardware complexity, compact size, and high integration.
Performance
Frequency sweeping beam steering from θ = 50° to θ = 85°. 13 – 17 dBi realized power gain; 20 – 23.5 dBi realized gain for ten SLWAs. With 10-dBm input power to the SSUPD, up to 35 dBm total radiated power is achieved from the array, corresponding to 58 dBm effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP).
