A Review of Electromagnetics-Based Microwave Circuit Design Optimization

Abstract

This article presents a review of numerous stare-of-the-art electromagnetic-based circuit design optimization techniques. Techniques are categorized into direct optimization techniques including gradient-based and swarm-based optimizers and surrogate techniques including space-mapped and ANN-based optimizers. The article explores the methodology for popular contemporary algorithms for each optimization category, and presents numerous examples broadly separated into design optimizations for transmission line components, filters and antennas.
