Device
Metasurface perfect absorber (MPA) with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric material for RF-vibration energy harvesting
Spectrum
23.8 Hz, 2.4 GHz
Novelty
A unified structure is used, where a high-dielectric-constant piezoelectric material acts as the substrate for the metasurface. The entire structure functions as a mechanical cantilever resonator for vibration energy harvesting. Interdigitated metasurface unit cells serve as electrodes for the piezoelectric harvester. The geometry of the design with multiple orientations of the metasurface cell is insensitive to changes in polarization and incident angles.
Application
Energy harvesting solution for powering autonomous sensor networks in environments where ambient RF signals coexist with low-frequency mechanical vibrations, such as smart farms, industry centers and urban buildings.
Performance
12 mW (vibration); 96% RF Absorption efficiency.
