The IEEE MTT-S Broadening Participation Committee (BPC) Latin America Initiative was established to strengthen the Society’s presence across the region, expand opportunities for students and young professionals, and create stronger connections between Latin American communities and the global microwave, RF, and terahertz community.
Throughout the initiative, three major in-person activities served as key regional milestones: a BPC Workshop in Lima, Peru, a second BPC Workshop in Quito, Ecuador, and a dedicated BPC activity held in conjunction with an international conference in Santiago, Chile. These events brought together students, researchers, academics, industry professionals, IEEE volunteers, and MTT-S leaders, providing spaces for technical exchange, mentoring, professional development, networking, and engagement with the Society.
Complementing the in-person activities, the initiative developed the IEEE MTT-S BPC Latin America Webinar Series, creating a continuous platform for regional engagement beyond individual events. Through online talks featuring internationally recognized researchers, industry professionals, and MTT-S leaders, the series has provided participants across Latin America with access to technical knowledge, emerging research areas, career perspectives, and opportunities to connect with the broader MTT-S community.
Together, the workshops, conference activities, and webinar series represent an ongoing effort to build a stronger and more connected IEEE MTT-S community in Latin America, encourage participation from new institutions and countries, and establish sustainable pathways for collaboration, mentorship, technical development, and future regional initiatives.
