Applied Microwaves: Connecting Academia and Industry
A landmark workshop connecting global microwave engineering leaders with Peru’s emerging talent and strengthening the bridge between academia and industry.
The IEEE MTT-S Broadening Participation Committee Workshop Peru 2026 brought together students, researchers, academics, industry professionals, and internationally recognized microwave experts for two days of technical learning, collaboration, mentoring, and innovation at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) in Lima.
As the first IEEE MTT-S BPC Workshop held in Peru, the event represented an important milestone for the microwave engineering community in Latin America.
Bridging Academia and Industry
For two intensive days, the workshop created a direct connection between academic research and the real-world challenges of the telecommunications and microwave industry.
Through keynote presentations, technical discussions, mentoring sessions, competitions, networking activities, and collaborative workshops, participants were able to exchange ideas directly with experts from the international IEEE MTT-S community.
More than simply a technical event, the workshop created an environment where students and young professionals could discover new opportunities, strengthen their professional skills, and become more actively involved in the global MHz-to-THz community.
World-Class Technical Leadership
The workshop welcomed an exceptional group of international IEEE MTT-S leaders, IEEE Fellows, Distinguished Microwave Lecturers, researchers, educators, and industry experts.

More Than Technical Talks
The Peru workshop was designed around active participation, giving students opportunities not only to listen to experts but also to present, design, compete, collaborate, and receive mentoring.
3-Minute Presentation Competition — 3MPC
Students were challenged to communicate an original idea, research project, or innovation in only three minutes using a single static slide.
The competition included both English and Spanish presentation categories, encouraging participants to explain complex technical ideas clearly to non-specialist audiences.
Participants were evaluated on:
- Clarity for a non-technical audience
- Storytelling and presentation structure
- Overall impact and delivery
Student Design Competition
The Student Design Competition challenged teams to solve practical microwave engineering problems using CST Studio Suite.
Participants were invited to design a microwave component, circuit, or system, simulate and validate their solution, and satisfy the technical requirements defined by the challenge.
The competition was designed to:
- Develop hands-on engineering experience
- Encourage creative problem-solving
- Strengthen simulation and microwave design skills
- Reward outstanding student innovation
Two Days. One Community. A Lasting Impact.
The success of the IEEE MTT-S BPC Workshop Peru 2026 demonstrated the enormous potential of the microwave engineering community in Peru and Latin America.
For two days, boundaries between students and experts, academia and industry, local initiatives and global opportunities became smaller.
