Summary
The Terahertz frequency regime, roughly spanning 300-3000 GHz, has moved to the forefront of recent expansion and innovative use of the RF spectrum. This webinar will introduce the science and applications that gave rise to the field some 40 years ago, and review some of the more interesting application areas being pursued today. Particular attention will be devoted to cross-disciplinary investigations and the advantages and pitfalls facing those who wish to apply the technology to commercial enterprises.
Speakers
Peter H. Siegel has been involved in millimeter- and submillimeter-wave technology development since he joined the MTT Society as a student member in 1975. His research work focused first on millimeter-wave low noise devices for radio astronomy applications, and pushed into the THz regime starting in the early 1980’s. He has spent most of his professional career building up interest and capabilities in THz electronics and applications, starting with space-based sensor systems at the NASA Jet Propulsion laboratory and then at the California Institute of Technology, where his focus shifted to bio- and bio-medical applications of millimeter and submillimeter-waves. He is very proud to have been involved in forming the International Society of Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz), the IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology, and now the new IEEE Journal of Microwaves.
