RF Circuits and System Design from the Perspective of Waveform Level Signal Processing
Abstract:
The demand for high speed, reliable, and high data rate transmission in communication, sensing, artificial intelligence (AI) computing, quantum processing, health, and internet of thing (IoT) are continuously increasing, and upscaling frequency spectrum and improving utilization of spectrum are emerging methodologies to support the urgent needs of data transmission in different applications. These new spectrum and high speed with wide instantaneous bands bring unprecedented challenges for conventional electronic hardware systems. For example, high end multiple analog or digital filters are required in spectrum sensing hardware block, spurious frequency cancellation and low local oscillator frequency feedthrough are designed for frequency conversion block, high sampling rate, wideband, high-resolution analog to digital converters (ADC) are desired for signal conversion, and high-speed baseband processor are applied to execute complex signal processing, which fundamentally limits the operating speed and consume high energy and power. In this talk, a new design approach for RF circuits and system from point of signal processing view will be discussed, and several reconfigurable real time RF signal processing circuits performing mathematical operation directly at analog waveform domain will be discussed to mitigate the computation load in digital domain and signal processing and relax system stringent constraints.

Bayaner Arigong is Mongolian born in Inner Mongolia. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from China University of Geosciences (CUG) in 2005 and 2008, and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from University of North Texas, Denton, TX, USA, in 2015. Prior to returning to academia, he was RF advanced system design engineer at Infineon Technologies in San Jose California. He is currently an Associate Professor with Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Florida A&M University – Florida State University College of Engineering, Tallahassee, FL, USA.
Dr. Arigong is Technical Program Committees and session chairs for IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS), Radio & Wireless Week (RWW), European Conferences on Antenna and Propagation (EuCAP), IEEE Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference (WAMICON), and IEEE AP-S Antennas and Propagation Symposium. He has received National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER) in 2024 and FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Rising Star Faculty Award in 2025. His research interests include RF/Microwave signal processing circuits, beamforming phased array, 3D printing RF circuit and system integration, RF power amplifier, quantum microwave chip, and electromagnetic device.
