Biomedical Integrated Sensing and Communications
Abstract:
This webinar provides an overview of wireless integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) techniques used to monitor physiological motion by leveraging existing wireless network signals. The research efforts reviewed range from passive radar approaches, including the exploitation of ambient signals from phones and other wireless network and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, to advanced methods for exploiting wireless network channel state information (CSI), beam-forming optimization, and healthcare applications.

Victor M. Lubecke
Professor, University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa
Victor M. Lubecke is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa, specializing in wireless sensing and integrated transducers. He was previously with Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, where his research focused on remote sensing and microelectromechanical systems for biomedical and industrial applications. Before that, he was with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN), where his research involved terahertz and MEMS technologies for space remote sensing and communications. He has authored roughly 300 peer-reviewed publications, holds seven U.S. patents, and co-founded and directed research in two start-up companies. He is a UH BOR Medal for Excellence in Research recipient, an IEEE Fellow, a Fulbright Senior Scholar, and an emeritus Distinguished Microwave Lecturer (DML) of the IEEE MTT-S. He as also served as Topic and Guest Editor on various MTT-S Transactions, and as Vice-Chair for the 2017 IMS. He currently serves on the IEEE AgeTech committee, and on MTT-S Technical Committees for Terahertz Technology and Applications, and Biological Effects and Medical Applications.
