The WIM Special Session at AWAP 2025: Empowering Women in Microwaves Across ASEAN
Despite global efforts to promote gender equity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), women remain underrepresented, comprising 33% of researchers worldwide and only 28% in engineering. In Vietnam, women account for 37% of STEM professionals, but at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), female enrollment remains at only 20%–22%. Participation in microwave engineering is even lower. These figures underscore the need for initiatives such as Women in Microwaves (WiM), which aim to support and connect women in microwave engineering.
In this context, the WiM Session held in Hanoi during the Asian Workshop on Antennas and Propagation (AWAP 2025) marked a significant step toward improving visibility, networking, and engagement across the Asia–Pacific Region. The workshop welcomed participants from six countries and featured technical sessions on antennas for 5G, beyond 5G, and 6G, metasurface antennas and applications, advanced antenna technologies, and electromagnetic wave applications.
