Are you succinct, clear and the one having a great idea? Then the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition ought to grab your attention.

The Three Minute Thesis 3MT® competition, which started out in an academic context at The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, in 2008 has garnered attention from the international community for its unique and important objectives. In its own words, the 3MT “cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.”

AN 80,000 WORD THESIS WOULD TAKE 9 HOURS TO PRESENT, AND THE TIME LIMIT IS 3 MINUTES…

Since its inception, the 3MT® competition has grown to include more than 350 universities across more than 18 countries worldwide!
In three minutes or less, using only one static slide, and no other props, contestants deliver their presentation to a panel of non-specialist judges. These judges rank the contestants, based on how engaging, accessible, and compelling they made their presentation. Moreover, candidates who go over the 3 minute time limit is disqualified.

At the IMS2017, you get the chance to push your presentation and technical skills to its limits. If you received your first professional degree no more than 15 years ago and if you have a paper accepted at IMS2017, then this is where you can take center stage.

The competition is scheduled for Monday, 5 June 2017, in one of the technical session venues of IMS2017. Contestants will make their presentations to symposium attendees and to a panel of non-specialist judges.

Beyond the bragging rights, while recognizing the top 5 ranked contestants, it is planned to award cash prizes to the top three, and to the People’s Choice winner.
