To fulfill the increasing demand for reliable high-speed access to information requires systems with the ability to generate, transport, and process signals occupying ever wider portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. In our specialized field of Microwave Photonics (MWP), signals in the radio-frequency, microwave and/or millimeter-wave bands are made to modulate an optical carrier wave so as to be readily manipulated in the optical domain, where all three of these signal bands together occupy a tiny fraction of the usable spectrum.
