75th Anniversary of the MTT-S Special Issue of JMW

Announcing a very special Special Issue celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Microwave Theory and Technology Society:

“MICROWAVES  ARE EVERYWHERE”

Initial Manuscript Submission Deadline: Dec. 1st, 2026

2027 will be the 75th Anniversary of the MTT Society. As part of the celebrations, IEEE Journal of Microwaves will be producing a very special issue we are calling “Microwaves are Everywhere.” The issue is based on a popular tutorial series we ran in our inaugural year and is intended to attract both common and more unusual applications of microwaves in EE as well as multidisciplinary fields. The emphasis is on applications and we are hoping to involve all of the MTT Society’s 28 Core Technical Committees and anyone who is using microwave frequencies, microwave instruments, or microwave technology in ways that are both interesting and exciting! The articles should take the form of tutorials that are at a slightly higher technical level than a magazine, but less rigorous than a technical review article. For typical examples and maybe some inspiration, see the articles listed below.

Examples of the topics and style of article we are soliciting for this special issue:

“Microwaves Are Everywhere: CMB: Hiding in Plain Sight,” in IEEE Journal of Microwaves, vol. 1, no. 1, pp. 14-24, Jan. 2021, doi: 10.1109/JMW.2020.3025246.

“Microwaves Are Everywhere: Ovens: From Magnetrons to Metamaterials,” in IEEE Journal of Microwaves, vol. 1, no. 2, pp. 523-531, March 2021, doi: 10.1109/JMW.2021.3059745.

“Microwaves Are Everywhere: RFID-Do You Know Where Your Pet Is?,” in IEEE Journal of Microwaves, vol. 1, no. 3, pp. 679-688, July 2021, doi: 10.1109/JMW.2021.3081022.

“Microwaves Are Everywhere: SMM: Nano-Microwaves,” in IEEE Journal of Microwaves, vol. 1, no. 4, pp. 838-852, Oct. 2021, doi: 10.1109/JMW.2021.3106936.

If you have a particular idea or topic you would like to contribute, please contact:

JMW Editor-in-Chief, Peter H. Siegel, (phs@caltech.edu).

The deadline for submission of initial manuscripts is Thursday, December 31st, 2026. Final upload of accepted papers is Thursday, April 1, 2027. All production-ready manuscripts will be posted on IEEE Xplore Early Access and will appear in final paginated sequence in the Special Issue – scheduled for release in May 2027.

Contributed papers should be targeted at ten pages, but special invited papers can be longer. All submissions will be reviewed in accordance with the normal procedures of the journal. Please tag uploaded papers as “Special Issue” through our Author Portal.

We hope you will consider contributing to this Special Issue of IEEE Journal of Microwaves and continue to support the journal through your regular research submissions.
