IEEE Microwave Magazine – August 2024

August 2024 Issue

The August issue of the IEEE Microwave Magazine is out! Our issue has three great features, an application note and an extensive set of columns. There is a lot happening this year in microwaves and this magazine is your go to for learning about all things microwaves.

So start with the Editor’s Desk for the real story on this issue. Then I usually check out the features before touring the columns. We have two passive features. The first covers planar layouts for coupling and isolating signals. How do you get signals to cross over each other without a non-planar crossover? Our second passive feature is about switches. Low on resistance and low off capacitance are key – and phase change materials are very attractive. Our third feature is familiar to everyone who has been through an airport. Learn more about how microwave imaging systems work. Application notes give us the more practical side of things and this application note is about how ceramics can help microwave networks in high temperature environments.

Our columns have a lot to say about our society and our technology. The President’s Column gives an excellent overview of what the MTT-S is actually doing. Give it a read. The MTT-S is big on awards. So much of our society is either volunteer or student. The Education News column is all about our Graduate Student Fellowship Awards. Check out the MTT-S Society News to find out about what our Radar & Sensing TC-24 is doing. Our branch chapters are doing amazing things and you can read about it in the MGA News column. Amateur Radio has a long and rich history of helping people and being involved with microwaves. Our Women in Microwaves explores an Amatuer Radio connection. The IEEE is big on engaging young professionals and the Young Professionals column shows it.

Of course we have some technical columns. These start with MicroBusiness and the difference between knowing what things are named versus understanding how they work. And lastly there is our Enigmas, etc. column with a solution to last month’s quiz on the Poincaré metric, the impedance plane and Q factor.

As always, check out the Conference Calendar and enjoy our in person meetings!
