Hermann Boss joined Rohde & Schwarz in Munich as an R&D engineer in the field of microwave techniques after graduation in electrical engineering at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1988.
Later he changed to the Center of Competence for Digital Signal Processing and ASICs and was responsible for the development of hard- and software used in spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers and in signal generators.
His activities are covering also EMC- test and measurement, noise-measurement, digital algorithms and high-speed design (RF, microwave and digital aspects) and he has several patents in that areas.
During the last years he is project leader for R&D in the field of time domain measurement instruments and he manages the hardware development of different instruments from RF to Microwave frequency range.
He was chair of the former Technical Committee MTT-9 on “Digital Signal Processing” (now MTT-15) and initiator and guest Editor of some Microwave Magazine issues.
For IMS he serves as a member of the Technical Program Review Committee and organizes workshops and sessions.
He is initiator and co-organizer of the Student Design Competition “Digital Predistortion” together with different universities and was also involved in the Student Design Competition “Software Defined Radio”.
