IEEE MTT-S 75th Anniversary Special Issue — 2027
“Microwaves Shape Future”
Overview
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S), IEEE Microwave and Wireless Technology Letters (MWTL) calls for technical articles for a special issue under the theme “Microwaves Shape Future.” The issue will highlight emerging microwave theory and technologies poised to influence research, engineering, industry, and society over the next decade and beyond.
Scope and Focus
The special issue will emphasize forward-looking perspectives, disruptive innovations, and long-term trends. We encourage contributions that address important challenges, opportunities, and transformative directions in microwave and wireless technology. The issue will cover the breadth of MTT-S Technical Committees and key industrial sectors, with particular interest in interdisciplinary research and new applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Emerging microwave, millimeter-wave, terahertz, and sub-THz technologies
- AI/ML-enabled microwave systems, intelligent RF, and autonomous design
- Microwave sensing, imaging, and wireless systems
- 6G/7G, integrated sensing and communications, and future connectivity
- Wireless power transfer, energy harvesting, and sustainable RF technologies
- Biomedical, healthcare, bioelectromagnetic, and other life-science applications
- Quantum, photonic, semiconductor, packaging, and heterogeneous microwave technologies
- High-power, high-efficiency, wideband, and reconfigurable RF/microwave systems
- Microwave technologies for space, defense, automotive, industrial, and consumer applications
- New materials, metamaterials, advanced manufacturing, and unconventional architectures
- Interdisciplinary and emerging application areas that may redefine the role of microwaves
Submission
Manuscripts should follow the current IEEE MWTL submission guidelines, including the prescribed format and page limits, and will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process. A dedicated paper category, “75th Anniversary Issue,” will be established in the submission system for manuscripts submitted to this special issue.
