Resonance Effects in Periodic and Aperiodic Lattice Structures

Resonance Effects in Periodic and Aperiodic Lattice Structures

Abstract

This article examines the resonance properties of lattice structures, particularly split ring resonators (SRR) and complimentary split ring resonators CSRR). The SSRs function as lattice dipoles and are modeled as transmission lines. Laboratory measurements for regular and random (periodic and aperiodic) arrangements of SRR and CSRR confirm the modeling technique and reveal complex interference patterns due to the sum of all the electric and magnetic fields within the structure. The effects of coupling capacitance is examined and found to have a significant role in the resonant behavior. The plasmonic response of these lattice structures is fundamentally important to understand, and it determines potential targeted applications for these resonant lattice structures.
