Abstract

The article shows areas of application for passive radar to improve civil aviation safety. It also provides an insight into passive radar systems and describes their development and history, which dates back to the 1930s. The functional principle of passive radar and possible transmitters are also presented. This is followed by an overview of signal processing and some performance parameters. The current state of the art in passive radar receivers, an essential element of the system, is also presented.
