Device
2 TX x 2 RX FMCW radar built on Global Foundries 22 nm FD-SOI CMOS
Spectrum
57-66 GHz (unlicensed band)
Novelty
Low IF modulation minimizes LO-RX leakage, DC offsets and flicker. Low-IF TX architecture is achieved with a BPSK modulator. The low-IF RX architecture allows orthogonal RX separation for MIMO operation. The quadrature digitally controlled oscillator (QDCO) achieves an ultrawide tuning range. TX and RX use the same frequency synthesizer to tolerate higher phase noise without degrading performance.
Application
Vital signs monitoring, gesture recognition.
Performance
9 GHz bandwidth, 1 dBm TX Pout, 6 dB RX gain, 30 dB noise figure (simulated), -73 dBc/Hz phase noise at 1 MHz offset, -177 dBc/Hz figure of merit FoMT considering the tuning range, 0.1 to 1.0 m range detection, 68.5 mW total DC power consumption (excluding RX baseband)
