100 Gbit/s and Beyond IEEE 802.15.3d Channelization Compatible THz Communications Enabled by a Broadband MUTC Photodiode
Abstract
IEEE 802.15.3d channelization-compliant links are demonstrated at 280 GHz using a broadband MUTC photodiode as the transmitter. Over a 25 cm wireless link with 16 QAM modulation,100 Gb/s single channel transmission with 12.3% error vector magnitude (EVM) performance and dual channel transmission with 10.9% EVM performance are demonstrated. Configured back-to-back, 200 Gb/s single channel transmission (32 QAM) with 7.5% EVM performance and 160 Gb/s dual channel (16 QAM) with 7.8 EVM performance are demonstrated. This systematic demonstration is important to better understand free space path loss (FSPL) and the linearity effects at high photocurrent levels of the MUTC photodiodes.
