Biography

Yi Wang was born in Shandong, China. He received the B.Sc. degree in applied physics and M.Sc. degree in condensed matter physics from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing, China, in 1998 and 2001, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic and electrical engineering from University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, U.K., in 2005.

From 2004 to 2011, he was a Research Fellow at University of Birmingham. In 2011, he became a Senior Lecturer and then Reader at University of Greenwich, U.K.. He is currently Chair Professor of Microwave Engineering with University of Birmingham. He leads the Emerging Device Technology (EDT) Research Lab, focusing on the application of novel materials and advanced manufacturing techniques to high frequency devices spanning microwave to terahertz regimes. He is the Academic Lead of the Engineering Cleanroom and the Terahertz Measurement Facility at Birmingham. He is the author of over 270 research papers. He served as Technical Program Committee Chair of the 2021 European Microwave Conference. He has been a Senior member of the IEEE since 2012.

His research interests include new and advanced manufacturing techniques (e.g. 3D printing, micromachining) for microwave and mm-wave devices, mm-wave and sub-terahertz filters, waveguide antenna arrays, reconfigurable / programmable devices, and functionally integrated microwave circuits and their co-design approach.
