Biography
Xiaoqiang (Sean) Gu is a Lecturer at the University of Bristol. He was an FRQNT Research Postdoctoral Fellow at McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada, from 2022 to 2023. He received the B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 2012, the M.Eng. degree in optical engineering from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2015, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the École Polytechnique de Montréal, Montreal, QC, Canada, in 2020. His research interests include energy-efficient emerging wireless technologies, wireless power harvesting, backscattering, RFID, battery-free sensing and communications, and nonlinear circuit analysis and design.
Dr. Gu was the Publicity Co-Chair of the 2022 IEEE Wireless Power Week (WPW) and a TPC Member of multiple IEEE conferences. He was a recipient of the FRQNT Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for the term 2022–2023, the Mitacs Accelerate Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2021, the URSI GASS Young Scientist in 2020, the IEEE MTT-S Graduate Fellowship Award in 2019, the STARaCom Scholarship in 2020, and the Best Student Paper Award of the IEEE MTT-S Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC) in 2017. He received the Student Grant of the European Microwave Week in 2019 and the Travel Grant Award of the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Workshop Series on 5G Hardware and System Technologies in 2018. He was among the Best Student Paper Finalists at the 2018 IEEE MTT-S WPTC and 2022 IEEE WPW.
