Biography

Dr. Tapan K. Sarkar, a distinguished member of the IEEE community, passed away peacefully Friday, March 12, 2021 at the age of 72 in Syracuse, NY. He was born in India and received B Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, the M.Sc.E. degree from the University of New Brunswick, in 1971, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, in 1975.

Dr. Sarkar spent a short amount of time in industry but his main contriubutions to microwave technology was in research. That was in the area of signal processing aimed at system design. He served several prestigious sponsors such as the Rochester Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and Rome Air Development Center. He also was a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Syracuse University. Dr. Sarkar authored or coauthored more than 300 journal articles and numerous conference papers and 32 chapters in books and fifteen books. Dr. Sarkar was a fellow of the IEEE and was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York.
