Biography
Robert P. Mertens(M’80-SM’86-F’95) received the Ph.D. degree from the Catholic University of Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, in 1972. In 1973, he was a Visiting Scientist at the University of Florida. After his return to Belgium in 1974, he became a Senior Research Associate at the National Foundation for Scientific Research of Belgium. In 1984, he joined the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC), Leuven, Belgium, where he is currently the Senior Vice President for Micro-Systems, Components, and Packaging. His activities also include research on photovoltaics and solid-state sensors. Since 1984, he has also been a Professor at the Catholic University of Leuven, where he teaches courses on devices and technology of electronic systems.
