Biography
Prakrati Azad received the B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida, UP, India, in 2012, and the M.Tech. degree in the Interdisciplinary Programme in Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), India, in 2017. He has submitted his doctoral thesis in 2025 on “RF Sensing and Imaging of Dielectric Materials and Media for Biomedical and Humanitarian Applications”. He is currently working as Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE) fellow in IIT Kanpur.
His research focuses on the development of resonant RF and microwave sensors for biomedical and humanitarian applications, performance enhancement through nano-material and enzyme integration, and the use of machine learning for sensing data interpretation and performance improvement. His interdisciplinary work extends to the design of anthropomorphic skin phantoms for microwave imaging and the development of functional-material-integrated RF sensors for biomedical and industrial applications. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and holds one patent in the domain of RF/microwave sensing and materials sciences.
Prakrati has been an active contributor to IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) activities. He has served as the Chair, Vice-Chair, and Treasurer of the IEEE MTT-S Student Branch Chapter (SBC) at IIT Kanpur from 2022 to 2025. Under his leadership, the SBC received the prestigious 2024 IEEE MTT-S Outstanding Student Chapter Award. He is also serving as the IEEE MTT-S Student Ambassador for 2025 and is actively involved with the IEEE MTT-S Young Professionals team.
He has successfully organized several technical workshops, invited talks, and humanitarian technology initiatives, including outreach programs on RF education in rural schools and sensor-based STEM activities. Beyond IEEE, he has contributed to student development at IIT Kanpur by serving as the Department Placement Coordinator and Overall Ph.D. Students Placement Coordinator from 2021 to 2025. He also serves as a reviewer for reputed journals such as IEEE Sensors Letters and conferences.
