Biography
Jiejun Zhang received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Ottawa, Canada, in 2017, after which he continued his postdoctoral research in the Microwave Photonics Research Laboratory. He received the B.Eng. degree in Electronic Science and Technology from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2010, and the M.Sc. degree in Optical Engineering from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2013. From 2017 to 2018, he was a photonic hardware engineer at Ciena Corporation, Ottawa, Canada. In 2018, he joined the Institute of Photonic Technology as a Professor at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. He is currently the Director of the Jinan Photonic Integration Center, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China.
Prof. Zhang’s research interests encompass microwave photonics, integrated photonics, and optical communications. His expertise lies in developing photonics-based microwave signal generators for broadband applications extending beyond the THz range, microwave photonic integrated chips designed for telecommunications, beam control, and applications across the microwave, THz, and infrared bands, and integrated photonic chips for AI computing. Prof. Zhang has authored or coauthored over 100 research articles, including over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Light: Science & Applications, and Optica.
Prof. Zhang has served as a Committee Member for several international conferences, including the Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP), CLEO-PR, PIERS, Conference on Lasers, Optics, and Photonics (CIOP), and Microwave Photonic Technology and Applications (MPTA). He has also served as a Session Chair for the 2019 International Topical Meeting on MWP, 2020 CLEO-PR, 2020 Photonics Asia, 2024 PIERS, and 2024 CIOP. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and a Member of the Optical Communication and Information Network Committee of the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering. Prof. Zhang is the recipient of the NSERC SiEPIC Postdoc Research Fellowship, the SPIE Education Scholarship, and the IEEE Photonics Society Japan Chapter Young Scientist Award.
