Biography
Akihito Hirai was born in Takamatsu City, Kagawa, Japan, in 1983. He received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Chiba University, Chiba, Japan, in 2005, 2007, and 2024, respectively.
In 2007, he joined Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Kanagawa, Japan. He is currently a Senior Manager of the Microwave Circuit Group. Since joining Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in 2007, he has consistently engaged in R&D and product development for microwave and millimeter-wave devices, circuits, and systems, including radar and SATCOM. His current research interests are primarily in RFICs, MMICs, and microwave circuits, including millimeter-wave and terahertz silicon and GaN devices for B5G/6G, satellite, and future wireless and radar systems. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University since 2025, teaching Integrated Circuit Design and Development.
Dr. Akihito is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers (IEICE) and served as an Associate Editor of IEICE Transactions on Electronics from 2023 to 2025. He was a recipient or co-recipient of the Young Researcher’s IEICE Award in 2011, the APMC 2013 Best Paper Award in 2013, the IEEE MTT-S Japan Young Engineer Award and the IEEE MTT-S Japan Michiyuki Uenohara Memorial Award in 2021, the IEEE RFIT Best Paper Award in 2023, the IEICE Best Paper Award, and the IEEE CAMA Best Innovative Conference Paper Awards in 2024, Kinki Region Invention Encouragement Prize, and the APMC 2025 Prize in 2025.
