It is with my great sorrow to inform you that Professor Roberto Sorrentino passed away in Italy on March 3rd, 2020.

Professor Roberto Sorrentino began his career as an Assistant Professor at La Sapienza University of Rome in 1974.  He was a Professor at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” from 1986 to 1990 and a Professor at University of Perugia, Italy, from 1990 to 2017. He founded a spin-off company RF Microtech in 2007. His research activities had been mainly focused on numerical methods and CAD techniques for microwave and millimetre-wave circuits and antennas, including reconfigurable circuits and antennas based on RF MEMS. He published extensively and won numerous awards, including the IEEE MTT-S Meritorious Service Award, the IEEE MTT-S Distinguished Educator Award, the Microwave Prize and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal.

Professor Sorrentino had been active within the MTT-Society for a long time. He was the Chairman of the IEEE Section of Central and South Italy and founded the local MTT/AP Chapter. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Microwave and Guided Wave Letters from 1995 to 1998 and served on MTT-S AdCom from 1998 to 2005 and from 2011 to 2013. He was Life Fellow of IEEE. His passing is a great loss to our community.
