Multiuser Long-Distance Sub-THz Wireless Communication
Abstract
This proof of concept experiment demonstrates multiuser long-distance wireless point-to-multipoint communications in the 280-300 GHz spectrum. The network demonstrates a 16 meter link between transmitter and receiver with up to four simultaneous receivers (users) separated up to 3.3 meters achieving up to 80 Gbps data rates using both QPSK and 16 QAM modulation schemes. The transmitter implements a novel architecture that includes a modulated laser to generate digital subcarriers, a unitraveling-carrier photodiode downconverter to the sub-THz domain, and a lens-integrated leaky-wave antenna with 30 dBi gain capable of 51° horizontal beam steering.
