I wish our global Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) community a very Happy New Year! As I begin my term as President, I am filled with excitement about the incredible opportunities ahead for our community. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our 2024 MTT-S President, Prof. Maurizio Bozzi, and express deep gratitude for his exceptional leadership and dedication to the profession we all cherish.
2025 promises to be a year of innovation, collaboration, and growth, with exciting projects, conferences, and initiatives that will propel our field forward. I look forward to working with all of you to continue advancing microwave and millimeter-wave technology—from megahertz to terahertz—for the benefit of humanity.
This year, we will launch an Ad Hoc Committee focused on Sustainable Microwave Technologies. The rapid technological advancements in sustainable communication, wireless power transfer, and radar systems are transforming industries like energy, telecommunications, and transportation. These innovations are not only improving efficiency but also promoting sustainability. The Committee will collaborate with climate scientists and policymakers to develop solutions that address these pressing challenges.
We will also continue our industry initiative, engaging with industry members to understand their needs and how MTT-S can address them. MTT-S thrives as a diverse community where students, young professionals, academics, and industry leaders collaborate to solve critical technology challenges.
Building on the success of our Africa Initiative in 2024, we will expand our outreach to students and young professionals in other regions of Africa and continue supporting newly established MTT-S chapters. There are significant opportunities for growth in microwave technology across the continent.
As a professional society, our ultimate goal is to develop technologies that benefit humanity. I encourage each of you to find time for volunteer work. Every small contribution matters—whether it’s inspiring students to pursue STEM, helping create smart classrooms in remote areas, mentoring young professionals, or sharing the latest technological breakthroughs. Volunteerism is easier when you join a society like MTT-S, where we provide resources and a supportive network to help you achieve your goals. One day, you may even have the opportunity to lead this remarkable organization.
Here’s to a successful and impactful 2025!
