Biography
Benjamin S. Williams received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA, in 2003. From 2003 to 2006, he was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Research Laboratory of Electronics, MIT. In 2007, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of California, Los Angeles, where he is currently an Associate Professor and a Henry Samueli Fellow. His research interests include terahertz and mid-infrared photonics, in particular quantum cascade lasers, semiconductor intersubband materials and physics, and metasurfaces and plasmonics. He received the Apker Award from the American Physical Society, the Young Investigator Award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Early Career Award from the National Science Foundation, and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. He is currently an Associate Editor for IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON TERAHERTZ SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
